Two heavy hitters in the automotive sector, the Volvo XC90 and Porsche Cayenne were some of the earliest full-size SUVs that saw exponential growth in the early 2000s. The Porsche shares its platform with corporate stablemates Audi Q7 and Volkswagen Touareg. The Volvo XC90 platform was based heavily on the luxury Volvo S80 executive saloon. The Volvo has understated elegance while the Porsche has more of an unforgiving and frumpy nature, though it is generally speaking more athletic and driver-oriented. Where the Porsche falls on its face compared to the XC90 is in the practicality department, with less cargo space, 2 less seats, and arguable less safety.
